Sponsorship: Mount Everest
First successful ascent of Mount Everest The legendary Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and the New Zealander Edmund Hillary became the first people to set foot on the summit of Mount Everest on 29 May 1953. The highest mountain in the world had been conquered. The euphoria following that first successful ascent made Tenzing Norgay a household name all over the world. Even the sun cream Sherpa Tensing came to bear his name.
